On March 27, Lancer Media reporters Alison Ramos and Kaitlyn Ramos had the pleasure of dining at Los Aztecas in Mt. Airy MD, and it did not disappoint.
The friendly and attentive staff created a welcoming environment. From the moment one steps inside, they are greeted with a nicely decorated interior that enhances the overall ambiance, setting the stage for a pleasant meal.
Los Aztecas is located at 1604 Ridgeside Dr Ste 101, Mount Airy, MD 21771. The restaurant is easily accessible with ample parking available, making it a convenient choice for diners in the area. Our first impression of the restaurant was that it was clean and welcoming. As soon as we walked through the door, a worker gave us menus and immediately walked us to our table. The staff was friendly and quick, making us feel hospitable and well-cared for.
As we sat down, the server had a positive attitude as they introduced themselves and took our orders. While we waited for the Carnitas Quesadilla and the Chilaquiles, we ate the chips and salsa that was brought over and another staff member came up to us and asked if we wanted homemade guacamole made in front of us on the spot. We kindly declined as we wanted to have space for our food.
We ordered the Carnitas Quesadilla and the Chilaquiles. For dessert we had Fried Ice Cream. For drinks we ordered an Horchata and a Fruit Punch Jarrito.
They offer a selection of classic Mexican soft drinks such as Jarritos, as well as traditional beverages like Horchata and other Aguas Frescas and standard unsweetened and sweet tea options. The price for these beverages is $2.99
The menu offered many amazing flavorful dishes. The portions were generous, and the presentation was excellent. The menu features a variety of options, including Mexican staples, seafood and burgers. Some of the dishes most commonly ordered by DoorDash customers include the Small Cheese Dip and the Fresh Guacamole. Other menu items include Crispy Tacos, Soft Tacos, Enchiladas, and Burritos.
The Carnitas Quesadilla at Los Aztecas is priced at $16.99 and offers a satisfying and flavorful experience. The portion were big which makes it a worthwhile dish. It is a great choice for those seeking a hearty and comforting meal with authentic Mexican flavors. The carnitas, known for their slightly crispy texture, are the star of this dish. They are wrapped in a warm, grilled tortilla with melted cheese. The combination creates a delightful blend of flavors and textures. The quesadillas are served with sides of sour cream, guacamole and pico de gallo. For $16.99, the Carnitas Quesadilla provides excellent value, considering the quality of ingredients and the generous portion size. Whether one is a fan of carnitas or simply looking for a flavorful and filling quesadilla, this dish at Los Aztecas is sure to satisfy.
The Chilaquiles at Los Aztecas, priced at $15.75, provided a delightful and authentic taste of Mexican comfort food. This dish features crispy tortilla chips in a flavorful sauce and topped with various ingredients. Toppings include either shredded chicken or beef, crumbled cheese, onions and a fried egg, adding layers of flavor to the dish. For $15.75, the Chilaquiles at Los Aztecas is also well worth the price. The combination of textures and flavors makes it a standout item on the menu, reflecting the restaurant’s commitment to quality and authenticity.
Los Aztecas also provides several vegetarian dishes, such as vegetarian fajitas, which include a mix of fresh mushrooms, zucchini, squash, bell peppers, onions and tomatoes. Another vegetarian dish is the “Veggie Yucatán” listed for $16.75 which is a combination of fresh mushrooms, zucchini, squash, bell peppers, onions and tomatoes. Served with Spanish rice, fried beans and tortillas. Another option is the “Burrito Loco” for $15.50, it’s a burrito filled with mushrooms, zucchini, squash, onions and tomatoes, covered with melted cheese and served with Spanish rice, guacamole salad and sour cream. Besides these there are also many more options like a Veggie Taco Salad, Enchiladas del Pueblo, Enchiladas Don Lupe, Enchiladas de Espinacas, Taquitos del Pueblo and Veggie Enchirito.
For dessert we ordered the Fried ice cream which comes in a waffle bowl. The fried ice cream comes with cornflakes, topped with chocolate, strawberry, honey and cinnamon and whipped cream. The ice cream is very good by itself but the toppings and everything it comes with make it even better.
One standout dessert is the flan, a rich custard with a delicate caramel topping. It has a creamy texture and is sweet. Another popular option is the churros, crispy fried dough pastries dusted with cinnamon and sugar. These are often served with a chocolate dipping sauce. Each dessert is prepared with care, ensuring a satisfying end to one’s meal.
What really stood out to us was the attention to detail in every dish. From the perfectly grilled tortillas to the richness of the sauces, it is clear the kitchen takes pride in what they serve.
The restaurant’s interior design is thoughtfully done, creating a space that’s both visually appealing and comfortable. This makes Los Aztecas an ideal spot for family routings, casual meals with friends or even a relaxed dinner for two.
For anyone in the Mount Airy area craving authentic Mexican food with a warm, inviting atmosphere, Los Aztecas is the place to be. We can’t wait to return!
