On February 7, Andrew Moxley signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his track and field career at Salisbury University.

Moxley was sure to put his academics first when choosing the right college for him, Salisbury’s track team was just another benefit along with his academics.

Moxley visited a few other local colleges, but none of them lived up to the welcoming atmosphere of Salisbury. Moxley and his family met the coach from Salisbury during his sophomore year. Moxley believes that this prior experience helped him with his overall choice.

When Moxley first went to visit Salisbury, the coaches and other team members welcomed him with no hesitation. The coaches recommended programs to Moxley that they believed he would be interested in and what would fit him best. The athletic program at Salisbury was what appealed to Moxley most.

Though Moxley also played football for Linganore (LHS), track and field is what he wanted to continue in college. He feels as if he has more control over the outcome of his events — even with the higher level at Salisbury.

“It’s going to be how good I’m doing and I can change and work harder to get better. It’s [playing at a higher level] obviously nerve wracking, but it’s nothing I can’t control, because it’s all on me,” Moxley said.

Besides being an athlete for LHS, Moxley began running for Lightning Running Club when he was younger. Though his club team helped him to get better each year, Moxley found that high school increasingly prepared him for the college level due to the amount of competition he has been put in since his freshman year.

Boy’s track coach Bill Eckard explained that Moxley has been one of the best hurlers at Linganore during the past ten years. He sees Moxley as a key member of the team and has been a leader to everyone.

“It’s amazing how hard he works at practice. Given his ability, he could just not do it,” said Eckard.

Eckard expresses that Salisbury is going to be getting an incredible athlete and the team will greatly miss their team leader.

Moxley’s mother, Stephanie Moxley, is confident that he is going to do great things and his parents are excited for what is next for him. His mother reported Moxley as being positive at all times, no matter the circumstances.

“It doesn’t matter what day you’re having, if he’s there, it’s a good day,” said Stephanie Moxley, his mother.

His mother explains that he is not worried about Moxley, she describes him as determined and independent.

“I think this [Salisbury] is the best choice for him, absolutely,” said Stephanie Moxley.
