When the leaves begin changing color and the breeze gets cooler, Linganore students’ favorite week of the school year has arrived.

On October 8, the Linganore Student Government Association (SGA) hosted the annual hill painting to kick off homecoming week.

This week features many events and traditions, and hill painting is ideal for any hands-on students to partake in. The event involves students using spray paint to create a design to represent their class, while competing with the other classes. Every year there is a new design theme and a new class to introduce to the activity.

Each class receives an equal section of the hill above the stadium to spray paint. Anyone and everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in this school-spirited event.

Every year, hill painting occurs the day after the homecoming parade. Unfortunately, this year the parade was canceled due to inclement weather. Luckily, despite a brisk wind, the weather on the day of the painting allowed members of the class council to carry on as planned.

The theme for this year’s paintings was “Together we are Linganore.”

Kailyn Nanda is a junior and member of the Class of 2025.  She has helped decorate the hill every year she has attended Linganore. She is very optimistic about securing the win for her class as part of the week-long class competitions.

“As juniors, we wanted to showcase how the juniors are a representation of that [the theme],” said Nanda.

Homecoming week is always an exciting occasion for freshmen since it is their first time experience and sets a bar for the next three years.

Freshman Nithya Saiv-Bhimisetty discussed how her class showed unity by working together for a common cause.

“My favorite part about today is how everyone was working together,” said Saiv-Bhimisetty. “I’m super glad [about] the turnout.”
