On Thursday, October 14, The girls’ JV volleyball team had their annual Dig Pink game against Catoctin High School. Dig Pink is an event that raises money for breast cancer awareness month which takes place in October.

Throughout the event, attendees could donate money by entering their names into a raffle, buying t-shirts, or even participating in a serving competition that cost one dollar to enter.

Going into the game, the JV volleyball team had a record of 7-2. The Lancers are led by sophomore captains Hailey Allen, Camryn Rawlett and Erika Latimer. The team is coached by Adrienne Livicoco, who coached the team last season.

The Lancers were coming off a brutal 2-1 loss against Urbana High School, which ended in a 15-10 defeat in the third set.  They were looking for a strong bounce-back victory when they faced Catoctin.

We didn’t play to the best of our abilities but all we can do is improve and play better next game,

It is safe to say the Lancers took this advice to heart as they won the first set by dismantling Catoctin by a score of 25-12. They followed this dominating play by coming out to a 15-5 lead in the second set before winning 25-21.

Despite the dominating play the Lancers still have room for improvement, specifically with their serves. “The next day at practice we had to run due to our poor serves, and it is something we must improve on,” said sophomore Skylar Shields.

The Lancers look to improve these skills as they aim to increase their record to 9-2 as they travel to Brunswick High School on October 18.
