Andrew Mullineaux participated in National Signing Day on November 11, 2020.  He committed to play lacrosse at Frostburg State University

Mullineaux’s coach, Rich Thompson, believes that Frostburg is very fortunate to have received such a good player.  “Coach Gartelman (FSU lacrosse head coach) is getting a heck of a young man,” said Thompson.  “He’s a young man that never complains.  One that goes to work every day, and he just grinds.  One that will do everything asked of him by his coaches and his teammates.”

“We are very proud of Drew’s hard work and determination on and off the lacrosse field.” said Amy Mullineaux, Andrew’s mother.

FSU created their Bobcats lacrosse team in early 2009.  Since then, they have established a powerful team that just recently moved from Division 3 to Division 2, which is quite a big step for them.  Division 2 means different teams and harder competition. The previous men’s FSU men’s lacrosse team lasted from 1970 to 1978, and didn’t exist for another 30 years until it was re-established in 2009.

Mullineaux is happy with his commitment to Frostburg.  “Frostburg recently transferred to D2 and started off 5-0 before their season ended due to COVID-19.  It also has what I want to study, it’s close to home, and the guys there are really nice and they all have good chemistry,” said Mullineaux.

Mullineaux’s parents are also happy with his commitment.  “We are happy that we will be able to easily get to see some of his lacrosse games since he isn’t too far from home.  He has two younger brothers so it will make lacrosse season easier all around since they both play as well.” said Amy Mullineaux.

Mullineaux has been playing lacrosse since fourth grade.  “He started playing lacrosse in 4th grade after watching his brother’s practice,” said Amy Mullineaux.  After playing for two years, he began playing with competitive club team Team Maryland.  Mullineaux plays at midfielder.  Team Maryland’s head coach, Brad Barber, is also the head coach of Hood College lacrosse.  “We stress the importance of strong academics and community involvement in the field. On the field, our program fosters an environment that promotes growth and success within a competitive culture to prepare our athletes to compete at the highest level,” said Barber on the Team Maryland Website.

“Drew started off a little too aggressive sometimes with his defense.  Over the years he really developed a better understanding and discipline in his game.” said Amy Mullineaux.

Team Maryland Lacrosse has had hundreds of their players move on to play in college.

“I played on the varsity team at LHS since my sophomore year.  In terms of competition, club team is harder.  High school, though, is more competitive overall,” said Mullineaux.

While lacrosse at FSU is perfect for Mullineaux, the available classes are as well.  Frostburg boasts an impressive computer science and cyber security class.  “Computer science or cyber security.  Whichever one I decide to major in, I’ll minor in the other,” said Mullineaux.

Mullineaux has no current plans for after college.  “None at the moment,” said Mullineaux.
