On December 12, Class of 2018 member, Madison Reeley who is interning at the National Cancer Institute, talked to several classes about the opportunity for internships with NCI.

To be eligible, a student must be at least 16, a junior in high school, and have an overall unweighted grade point average of 3.0 or 2.5*.  If you are interested in applying, start talking to Mrs. Jennifer Radil-Harris or Mr. Jeremy Brown as soon as possible. The deadline is on January 1st, 2018.

“It helps students clarify their career direction. It can also save them money for college and leads to other opportunities”, said Mrs. Radil-Haris.

The Werner H. Kirsten internship program is year-long (eight weeks during the summer and three hours during every school day). The WHK is a science based program which gives a student opportunities to work alongside other scientists and apply for other internships.

Reeley is a part of the WHK internship program, she works in a dry lab, The Public Affairs and Communications office. Reeley writes scientific articles and plans events. Reeley explained how this internship has given her more opportunities in the field she’s working in.

Radil-Harris knows of several similar internships in the STEM field.  Please see her to take advantage of opportunities for the 2018-2019 school year.  Deadlines are approaching quickly.
