On Monday night, new officers and 72 new members were inducted into the National Math Honor Society and the National English Honor Society at a joint ceremony.

The evening began with a few encouraging words from the teacher leaders, Mrs. Jennifer  Purgason(NMHS) and Mrs. Natalie Rebetsky (NEHS). Mr. David Kehne followed, giving a heartfelt speech about the importance of family.

NMHS was first to induct its new officers: Sydney Garwood (President), Andrew Tran (Vice President), Patrick Dougherty (Vice President of Tutoring), and Abi Bladen (Secretary). NEHS was next to induct its officers: Isabella Marcellino (President), Olivia Goldstein and Dillon Mitcham  (Vice Presidents), Amy Safsten  (Corresponding Secretary), Elena Nicoll (Historian), and Natalie Smith (Treasurer). Each officer spoke on behalf of their chapter, giving a brief summary of the tasks and events each society will accomplish this coming year.

One by one the seniors, juniors, and  single sophomore inductee (Brendan McCann) took the stage and received membership, as officers read individual biographies. The ceremony ended with each of the presidents congratulating members, and leading the oaths of both societies.

Pictures were taken, and refreshments offered after the ceremony.
