The NJROTC end of year awards ceremony held a special surprise for the teacher of Naval Science 1 and 3 classes, Chief Michael Rodrigues. He was awarded the Maryland VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Teacher of the Year.

Elizabeth McWilliams, who had been a student in Chief Rodrigues’ Naval Science 1 class says, “He really deserves it. He’s been the best teacher to all of us, I can’t think of anyone else who has taught me more.”

Commander Henry Lane nominated Rodrigues several  months ago, and it was only recently that he knew that Chief Rodrigues had actually won at the state level. Rodrigues was presented with a plaque and check.
