Urbana High School’s varsity baseball team warms up before the top of the 5th inning.

Linganore High School’s (LHS) varsity baseball team lost to the Urbana Hawks 10-3 on the road on May 1.

The game was led by Urbana 3-2 until the bottom of the 7th inning when South Carroll went on a seven-run rally to close the game out.

During the game, Urbana had 10 runs on 8 hits, while Linganore had 3 runs on 8 hits.

Linganore Senior Stephen Curry pitched five innings and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits. He was not happy with his overall performance.

“I played a really bad game,” Curry said. “[I] could have done better with my pitch location, but this game was a learning experience.”

Senior Dylan Remphrey had 2 hits in the game, and while he was happy with his individual performance, he was not pleased with the team’s performance. For Remphrey, it was reminiscent of the team’s loss to South Carroll on April 8.

“I played really well against a really good Urbana team,” Remphrey said. “Unfortunately, we let a team blow us out in a single inning again.”

Senior Augie Jansen, who had two hits in the game, agreed with Remphrey’s take.

“We started off slow, then we came within one run [of Urbana],”Jansen said. “Next thing you know, we’re down 10-2, and we gave up 7 runs in an inning. [It is] not the most ideal way to stay in a game.”

Junior Daniel Jakubowyc of the opposing Urbana team had 5 strikeouts during the game and was thrilled with his performance and the 7-run 6th inning.

“I pitched really well for 5 innings, and then my teammates decided to go blow the game open in the 6th,” Cordery said. “It was an overall good performance for myself and also my team.”

Senior Connor Roussel of Urbana also felt “[i]t was a really good win for the team.”

The Linganore Varsity baseball team play their next game on May 3 at home against Governor Thomas Johnson at 4:30 p.m.
