On February 7, Linganore senior Cody Griffis signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his lacrosse career at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. The Shenandoah Hornets are a formidable force in NCAA Division III lacrosse.

Griffis expressed his longstanding desire to continue playing lacrosse in college and found Shenandoah to be the perfect fit.

“I don’t wanna know what life after lacrosse is like for a bit,” Griffis said. “I really liked their campus, and it felt like home. I also liked the guys and coaches. It was the perfect place for me to develop on and off the field.”

Having been an integral part of the Linganore boys’ varsity lacrosse team for four years, Cody’s leadership qualities were acknowledged when he was selected as a captain for the 2024 season. This role not only showcased his on-field skills but also his ability to inspire and guide his teammates.

Linganore varsity boys’ lacross coach Richard Thompson lauded Griffis’ contributions to the team, calling him “a tremendous young man.” He highlighted Griffis’ athletic prowess as well as his character off the field.

“I’m going to miss him as a player and mentor to our younger guys next year,” Thompson said.  “He’s a great kid.”

Griffis’ parents are thrilled with his accomplishments and plans to continue playing at the collegiate level.

“We’re very proud and excited for what comes next for him,” Cody Griffis’ father, David Griffis, said.

Looking ahead, Griffis eagerly anticipates playing alongside his teammate Maddox Levinson in college.

“I am very excited to continue to play with Maddox,” Griffis said. “The connection [between us as teammates] will definitely carry over. It should help us elevate the play of everyone around us.”

Cody is excited for his future at Shenandoah.

“I can’t wait to get up there and get to work with the guys,” Griffis said. “These next months are gonna be long; I’m not gonna lie.”

Griffis is eager to play lacrosse for Shenandoah, where he plans to study sports management in the fall.

“Go, Hornets!” Griffis said.
