With the support of the Baltimore Ravens, Linganore High School was able to introduce a girls’ flag football team in the 2023-2024 school year.
The varsity girls’ flag football team had a powerful start to their season on Wednesday, August 30 when they defeated Walkersville High School 50-12.
Linganore High School junior, Josslyn Quansah said, “We are the first Linganore flag football team ever, and we just won our first game; it feels really important,”
The Linganore Lancers had an outstanding performance both offensively and defensively. In just the first half, Linganore lead Walkersville 26-12.
At the start of the second half, junior Morgan Roberts scored an impressive touchdown, propelling the Lancers even farther ahead. Additionally, junior Laura Gunning had numerous contributions on defense, keeping the Lions scoreless in the second half.
Sophomore Rachel Hepner and junior Alexis Sweene also largely contributed to the success of the Lancers on both sides of the ball.
The first ever Linganore girls’ flag football game finished with an impressive score of 50-12.
Linganore High School students showed up and cheered on the team in their first game. Students demonstrated Lancer pride by rallying together in the endzone chanting, “I believe that we will win.”
With the start of a brand new program, Coach Karly Johnson said that she is hopeful that the girls will “leave their mark, show everybody what they can do and leave a path for the upcoming girls.”
The team has major goals for this season.
“This year I hope we make it to county championships and win it all,” Coach Brian Sweene said.
