On November 8, Cailin Spelman signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her athletic career on the women’s soccer team at Shippensburg University.
The Shippensburg Raiders are a NCAA Division ll school that competes in the PSAC conference.
Spelman is a team captain of the Linganore girls’ varsity soccer team this year, and she has been on varsity for three of her four years spent with the program.
She is an impactful player and a strong defender who, this year, became a key offensive force as well. Spelman tallied an impressive 3 goals this year as an outside defender, and her contributions across the field earned her second team all-county.
In addition to earning second team all-county this past season, Spelman earned honorable mention her junior year, and started on varsity as a sophomore.
Linganore girls’ soccer head coach, Mike Heller, could not say enough about Spelman’s impact for the Lancers.
“Her speed, physical play and ability to cover the entire length of the field is invaluable,” Heller said.
Spelman has played soccer for 14 years at many different levels and could not imagine her soccer career ending after highschool. “I have always known that I wanted to continue playing soccer at the next level,” she said.
Her extensive experience at many different levels and teams has her feeling prepared and excited to go on to the next level.
“I am very excited to challenge myself even more and surround myself with likeminded people,” said Spelman.
Recruitment is no easy process, but after communicating with coaches and visiting Shippensburg, Spelman said, “It all felt right, like it was the perfect fit.”
“Shippensburg is getting a truly great player in Cailin,”, Heller said.
At Shippensburg University, Spelman plans to major in business or finance and she hopes to pursue a job in that field after college.
