#NationalSigningDay2019: Faceoff specialist Coletti will serve on and off the field at Army
“Will’s choosing to serve all of you by choosing the Army. He had many schools to choose from, but he’s decided to not only invest in his future, but yours.” –Coach Thompson
On November 13, senior lacrosse FOGO (Face Off Get Off) Will Coletti put pen to paper finalizing his commitment to further his academic and athletic career at Army West Point on National Signing Day.
Coletti has been a four-year player at the varsity level for lacrosse. Towards the end of his sophomore season, he had already been recruited by the likes of Lehigh University, the University of Richmond, the Army, and the University of Michigan for good reasons: Coletti was already an Under Armour Underclass All-American and boasted an 83.9 faceoff percentage, ranking him among the top 120 players in the country at faceoffs.
Now, as a senior, Coletti ranks fourth and fifth in Maryland history for the most faceoffs won in a high school season having won 244 in 2018, and 246 this past spring. Nationally, Coletti is ranked 37 for the most career faceoff wins. Everyone is wondering what will senior year bring?
Coletti believes he deserves to play at the highest level due to his ability to dominate.
“The recruiting process was so slow until the summer following my freshman year. I played in the Under Armour All-America showcase tournament, and that’s when everything took off. I showed everyone I could play with the best players in the country,” said Coletti.
That summer, Will’s team, Baltimore Command, advanced to the championship with Will leading the team at FOGO.
Varsity lacrosse head coach Richard Thompson doesn’t want people to just applaud Will’s lacrosse ability that’s helped him attend Army, but the fact he’s choosing Army is more commendable.
Thompson said, “Will’s choosing to serve all of you by choosing the Army. He had many schools to choose from, but he’s decided to not only invest in his future, but yours.”
Army’s lacrosse team finished their season earlier this spring with a winning record of 13-5. They won the Patriot League Championship and are ranked 13th in the final national polls for the season.
