Your finished product is a DIY penguin light bulb ornament!

Why buy Christmas ornaments when you can make your own?

This DIY is turning an old light bulb into a cute penguin ornament. But, don’t let me limit your imagination. You can make many different ornament designs with only a light bulb. My little brother also made an ornament with me, but he turned his light bulb into a mini Christmas tree instead!

Materials Needed:

  • An old light bulb
  • Black, white, orange, and pink Acrylic paint
  • Multiple sized paintbrushes
  • A Q-Tip
  • A toothpick
  • A hot glue gun
  • Ribbon

Step 1: Pour some of the black acrylic paint into a container. (I used the bottom of a water bottle)

Step 2: Take the light bulb and paint it entirely black; excluding the metal top. Let the paint dry. (I cut out a hold in the bottom of an egg carton to hold the light bulb while it dried)

Step 3: Once dry, paint the on another 2 to 3 layers.

Step 4: When all the layers of black paint is dry, take the white paint, and paint an outline of the penguin shape. The smaller side of the light bulb is where the head will be, so follow the shape of the bulb to make the body of the penguin.

Step 5:  Fill in the outline, and once again wait for it to dry and paint another 2 to 3 layers.

Step 6: Take a QTip and dot the pink on to represent the blush on the penguin’s cheeks.

Step 7: For the eyes, cut off the end of a toothpick or anything to give you a small round circle, and put the black paint above the penguin’s cheeks.

Step 8: For the beak, use a really small paintbrush and paint a small triangle between the pink dots.

Step 9: Cut the ribbon to your desired length, and tie the two ends in a knot.

Step 10: Take the knotted side of the ribbon and add hot glue to it. Take the ribbon with the hot glue and attach it to the metal end of the light bulb. Once you press down on where the glue is and hold for around 10 seconds, the ribbon should be securely attached to the light bulb.

Now, you have a completed and cute ornament to decorate your tree and get into the holiday spirit!
