Hewitson and Tregoning shine in 1600 meters
On Saturday, March 22nd, the track team competed in Germantown’s Screaming Eagles Invitational. Men’s varsity earned 12th place out of 23 teams. Oakdale, the only other Frederick County participant, placed 9th. Girls’ varsity earned 5th place out of 24 teams. The highlight for both was the 1600 meters. Notable performances include the following.
Boy’s Track:
Micah Hewitson earned 3rd (out of 29) in the 1600 meters with the time of 4:42.74 seconds. Close behind was senior Scott Colentz in 7th with the time of 4:56.66 seconds.
In the 400 meters, senior A.J. Anderson earned 11th (out of 46 runners) with the time of 53.50 seconds.
In the 800 meters, junior Riley Mack earned 10th (out of 47) with the time of 2:12.14 seconds.
Army commit and senior Dan Beck got 7th (out of 22) in the 3200 meters with the time of 10:46.93.
In the 300m Hurdles 36”, junior Adam Beisser earned 8th (out of 41) with the time of 43.14 seconds.
Out of 30 men’s relay teams for the 4×100 relay, Linganore placed 11th with the time of 47.17 seconds. The men’s relay team also participated in the SMR 200-200-400-800m relay. Out of 27 relay teams that participated, Linganore placed 6th with the time of 3:54.89 seconds.
Girl’s Track:
In the women’s 1600 meters, junior Bailey Tregoning earned 2nd place (out of 29 runners) with the time of 5:33.98 seconds.
McKenna Henyon earned 8th (out of 25) in 100m Hurdles 33” with the time of 18.58, as well as 8th (out of 28) in 300m Hurdles 30” with the time of 52.50.
Linganore’s women’s relay team participated in the 4×800 relay and earned 3rd place (out of 9 teams) with the time of 11:20.75 seconds. In the DMR 1200-400-800-1600m relay, Linganore earned 4th place (out of 11 teams) with the time of 14:54.61 seconds.
Despite the harsh weather conditions, the track team still practices every day after school. “We practice no matter what weather condition. Rain. Snow. We are always practicing,” says sophomore Will Nixon.
