This past Monday seniors Madison Ambush and Ally Coggins both signed letters of intent to play sports in college. Ambush is committed to Hofstra University for softball and Coggins committed to Wheeling Jesuit University for lacrosse.

Ambush has played varsity as a catcher all three seasons and made the Frederick News Post All-Area First Team for softball her sophomore and junior years. She is one of the main contributors to the team’s success and their run all the way to the state finals.

Head softball coach Andrea Poffinberger is very proud of Ambush and her accomplishments. Poffinberger says, “She came on her first year as a talented freshman… and I think her leadership is what’s grown over her three years being here.” The team lost eight players to graduation last spring, and someone must fill those shoes. Poffinberger feels that Ambush will be able to take that role in the Spring 2015 season.

Poffinberger expects Ambush to have to make a transition when she enters Hofstra’s system. “I’m sure it will be different for her… She’ll be stepping in and going through the same learning process she went through as a freshman here.” Poffinberger has confidence in Ambush’s abilities. “She’ll step up and do great.”

Other softball players that are receiving attention from college scouts include Ambush’s younger sister Kennedi Ambush, sophomore Lauren Lovewell, and senior Jordan McLain. Kennedi is a sophomore but has already received attention from the University of Delaware. Poffinberger says that she expects Lovewell to get attention as her junior and senior years approach. McLain has committed to Messiah as a catcher.

Coggins plays midfield and attack and has been a key member of the team during her years on varsity. Wheeling Jesuit is an up and coming program coming off an improved 9-8 record in 2014. In 2013 the team went 5-13 and Coggins hopes to be able to contribute to the program’s rising status.
