Principal Dave Kehne made kinklings for the staff on February 23.  This was a “make-up” day from his original plan to make the fried donuts for the staff on Mardi Gras, February 17.  That day was a snow day.

As part of the tradition of Shrove Tuesday, he made kinklings (also known as Fasnacht in German) which is a fried doughnut.

“I’ve made kinklings for about five or six years in a row. Since [the schools’] budget was cut, we couldn’t buy any treats for the entire staff. I thought it would be cheaper if we could just make the treats by hand instead. I felt as if people would appreciate me making the kinklings instead of just going out and buying other treats.”

He prepared the dough before school and fried the donuts in the cooking lab.

“I want to thank Sharon Smith for helping me make the kinklings. It was a lot of work to do all by myself. She was more than happy to help, and I know that she is a fantastic cook,” said Kehne.
