On February 5, Taylor Moran signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her athletic career at Shenandoah University.
Taylor Moran started her Linganore basketball career in her junior year after transferring from a private school she attended for both freshman and sophomore year. In such a short amount of time, Taylor made an impact.
In her final year of highschool she leads the Linganore varsity girls’ basketball team in scoring and is one of the best in the county at scoring and rebounding.
“She [Taylor] has been a tremendous asset to this team,” Coach Easterday said. “Taylor is a dynamic player and serves as one of our captains this year.”
Making the switch from highschool to college is a big switch, in the class you have to be sharper, and on the court it requires more work.
Taylor plans to major in business at Shenandoah and adds about how she plans to balance school and sports.
“I just need to get my priorities right and not procrastinate; everything I need to get done has to be done,” said Moran.
Taylor started basketball at the age of 5. Her dad Shawn Moran took her to a local basketball clinic, where they taught the kids how to play the game of basketball.
“She’s obviously grown physically, but a lot of it [her growth] has been what she’s done off the court, outside of practice, it’s not just showing up for practice, it’s what she did in the offseason and off days to work on her game and get better.” Said Taylor’s Dad Shawn.
While switching schools may be a pretty normal occurrence, for an athlete it means starting completely from scratch with a new team, new coaches and a completely new dynamic.
For Taylor it might have taken a toll, but it was a much needed transition.
“I switched schools mid season just because the culture on my previous team at the time was not good and not benefiting me mentally,” Moran said. “After switching, I was very discouraged, but I realized that I still had to play my hardest and try my hardest.”
As Moran plans to jump immediately into a starting role at Shenandoah University, she realizes that this is a big stepping stone in a person’s life and is ready and prepared for the challenge.
Good luck Taylor!
