On Wednesday, February 5, Senior Alexis Sweene signed her National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse at Georgian Court University.
Sweene has been playing lacrosse since first grade, and over the past 12 years, she has worked hard to reach this level of competition.
She earned a spot on the varsity team as a sophomore due to her dedication and hard work. In addition to lacrosse, Sweene has also been a member of Linganore High School’s (LHS) flag football, field hockey and basketball teams.
The LHS varsity lacrosse team had a successful 2024 season. They won the Central Maryland Conference and were 2024 Class 3A West Region champions but lost at the state finals.
Going into her senior year, Sweene knew she wanted to attend a four-year college and play lacrosse. Her college selection process was short because she fell in love with the first school she visited.
From the moment she first stepped onto the Georgian Court University campus, she knew it was the right fit for her.
“I fell in love with it when I first visited, and from then on, I knew that was the school for me,” said Sweene.
Sweene plans to major in education and is looking forward to continuing to enjoy the sport of lacrosse at the collegiate level, while pursuing her academic goals. At Georgian Court, she is excited to meet new teammates and experience a higher level of competition but also have fun.
Linganore’s head lacrosse coach, Dean Coccia, had nothing but praise for Sweene’s achievements.
“The game gets faster as you get older, and Alexis has demonstrated her ability to grow as she’s gotten older,” said Coccia.
His advice to Sweene as she continues her athletic career in college is to set goals for herself, work toward them every day, overcome battles and continue dreaming big. He believes her dedication and perseverance will take her far in lacrosse.

Sweene’s parents, Brian and Danielle Sweene, are incredibly proud of how far she has come and hope she achieves all of her goals in this new chapter of her life.
“I hope she continues to love the sport, work hard, but also have fun and enjoy her college journey because it will go by really fast,” her mother Danielle Sweene said.
Her father, Brian Sweene, added, “I hope she continues to love the sport she’s playing and that it continues to grow with her.”
With the encouragement of her parents, coaches and teammates, Sweene is ready to embrace this new opportunity, work hard, and make the most of her college experience.
