On Wednesday, February 5, Jason Capone signed to play Division III football with the Salisbury Seagulls.
Capone, a middle linebacker who played on the varsity football team for three of his four years at Linganore High School (LHS). In his senior year, he made All-County First team after an outstanding season.
Capone also got to experience playing in a state championship game in his senior year.
Capone has high hopes and goals for his time playing with Salisbury.
“I hope to get on the field as early as I can and just do great things up there as well,” said Capone.
Richard Conner, LHS football head coach, shared his thoughts on Capone’s exceptionality as a player.
“He has one of the highest football IQ’s I’ve ever been around,” Conner said.
In his three years as a varsity player, he had 149 total tackles and 21 tackles for loss. He also played in 37 varsity games, which is a rare feat.

“He was the quarterback of our defense,” said Conner. “He got everybody where they’re supposed to be at.”
Capone’s love of football began at a young age. He was inspired by NFL quarterback Peyton Manning, which is why he wears #18 to honor his football role model.
“Ever since I was born I just had a love for the sport, and then I started playing, and I just can’t get enough of it,” Capone said. “My favorite part about high school is just meeting everyone [and] getting to hang out with my buddies all the time and playing ball.”
Capone’s mother, Tracy Capone, commented on his football career with Linganore and his progress as a player.
“[We] definitely watched him grow into a much better athlete over time,” Tracy Capone said.
According to Conner, who personally knows the defensive coordinator at Salisbury University, the team cannot wait for Capone to get on campus.
“They’re excited about his commitment,” said Conner.
Capone is majoring in Physical Education, and also wants to coach football in the future. Capone is eager to continue his athletic career in college and is excited to see what his future has in store.
