Every year in February, the streets of downtown Frederick are adorned with ice sculptures in a weekend-long celebration.
Fire in Ice, the unique annual event featuring ice sculptures, fire demonstrations and refreshments, is a staple tradition for locals.
The kickoff for this event took place on Friday, January 31 from 6-9 p.m. A free shuttle service was provided to and from the event.
During this time period, a live ice carving demonstration took place on 20 N East St. Additionally, an ice-themed putt putt course, giant yard games and marshmallow roasting took place on 331 N Market St.
Visitors could also check out the Polar Lounge at 15 E 6th St for outdoor refreshments, games and warm up by the “roaring fire tower.”
From 7:00-7:30 p.m. and 8:00-8:30 p.m, there were fire performances at the Carroll Creek Amphitheater.

Sarah Hanson, who attended the event on Saturday, said, “The fire performances were absolutely amazing, especially the man who was using a drink to blow a huge cloud of fire. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing!”
On Saturday morning, the ice sculptures are dispersed around Frederick in front of storefronts and on sidewalks. The ice games and polar lounge were available from 11AM-9PM. Additionally, there was a scavenger hunt from 12-6PM.
There were food trucks available from 11AM-7PM at the Carroll Creek Amphitheater, including: The Underdog Cart by Boxcar Burger, Side Hustle Sliders, M.R Cheesecakes, La Parada and In10seBbq.
“My favorite part was walking around and admiring all the

ice sculptures…” Hanson said. “…I hung out with my family as we walked around Frederick, going in and out of shops, taking pictures of the ice sculptures, playing mini golf and enjoying our time together!”
