Between September 28-30, Linganore High School (LHS) held their 51st community show organized by the Linangore Future Farmers Of America (FFA) chapter.
The annual event was held in the auxiliary gym and the back parking lot and was sponsored by the Maryland Agriculture Fair Board, New Market Grange, Linganore Grange and Linganore FFA.
On the first night, Sunday, September 28, there were baked goods and cake and flower auctions in the cafeteria. Dinner was also provided for attendees between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. The meal included fried chicken, pulled pork and cake.
On the second day of the community show, 1st graders from New Market Elementary School got to come and enjoy the fun. The students had the opportunity to participate in numerous activities, including arts and crafts, face painting and hayrides. Students also had the chance to sit on tractors and pet farm animals.
People from classes at Lingnore, such as woodshop, horticulture and welding, made projects to be judged in the Community Show.
“It’s great to see everyone’s project and work on them for the community show for everyone to see,” said Sierra Heany, a student from LHS in a woodshop class who participated in making projects for the community show.
Along with these competitions, students also got to participate in the first annual wheelbarrow race. The race was divided by elementary schoolers, middle schoolers, high schoolers, adults and group/clubs, with a cash prize for the winner in each division.
“It’s so nice to see the kids have so much fun, and they love getting to sit in the tractors,” said Ehren Likar, a member of the LHS chapter of the FFA. “I think it [the community show] is a great way to connect with people from the community.”
The final day of the community show was family night. It included many fun activities such as games and crafts, food trucks, the wheel barrow race, touch a truck tractor, a silent auction, a raffle, moon bounce and music.
“There was so much support from the community; it was great to see,” said Sophie Ausherman, a member of the LHS FFA. “I love seeing all the kids have so much fun, and I love watching everyone come together and have such a good time.”
