On Wednesday, February 7, senior Mason Farster signed his National Letter of Intent to attend Millersville University and play Division III football.
Farster was not overlooked in terms of accolades during the 2023 season– he was named to the All-County First Defensive Team, Regional First Team in the 3A level and All-State First Team. He also led Linganore’s team in tackles this season with 93 and recorded 5 interceptions.
When Farster was exploring his options for playing at a higher level, Millersville’s atmosphere and coaching staff jumped out at him.
“I really liked the [head] coach’s energy,” Farster said. “He kind of seemed like a person that had a lot of energy and passion towards the game. This guy looked like he was fun.”
Farster has been playing the sport for 13 years, so he is not new to the world of football. Throughout it all, he reported that his parents have been his biggest support in making sure that he was well prepared and had people cheering him on from the sidelines.
“I’m excited for him and his new adventures [at Millersville],” said Christy Farster, his mother. “I just am looking forward to him growing up [and] being independent.”
Farster will play defensive back for the Marauders, but at Linganore he plays on both offense and defense. Given that games often take upwards of two hours, being able to stay engaged and active the entire time is no small feat.
Farster noted that playing at a higher level in college is definitely something that he is looking forward to.
“I’m kind of nervous going against 24-year-olds, but other than that, you’ve got a helmet on, shoulder pads [and] you’re protected, so that’s how I try to think of it,” said Farster.
Football head coach Rick Conner emphasized Farster’s ability to both hold opponents from scoring and still make plays on behalf of the offense.
“He’s going to be a great player for Millersville,” Conner said. “I can’t wait to see him rock out [there].”
