On February 7, 2024, Linganore senior Cormac Moroney signed his National Letter of Intent to run at Salisbury University. Salisbury University is a public 4-year university located in Salisbury, Maryland.

Moroney is a long-distance runner and participates in both varsity cross country and track and is team captain.

When asked why he enjoys running, Moroney said,  “It’s a great outlet for me.  And it’s something I can work towards and get better at.”

Cross country and track coach, Andres Wright, said  “He has developed many habits of the top runners and inherently knows how to get the most out, his talent and ability, his perseverance in the face of challenges, whether illness or injury, will serve him well in running-and life in general.”

In his senior year of cross country, Moroney placed fifth in both the Frederick County Championships and MPSSAA 3A West Region Championships for the 5000 meter. Moroney has a personal record of 16:25 for the 5000 meter and 16:20 for the three mile.

“He had a serious foot injury that winter preventing him from running indoor and kept him out of most of his indoor 2023 track season,” Wright said. “But after a strong summer of training, he excelled in his senior year finishing with the top 10 individuals in 6 of his 8 races and improving his 5k time to a fine 16:25, and leading our team in every race and workout again.”

Moroney’s best memory from his high school running experience is when his team won the CMC county and region championship his sophomore year.

Moroney looked at seven different schools but ultimately decided on Salisbury because it was the best fit for him academically. He plans to major in physics.

Caitlin Moroney, Moroney’s mom, said, “I’m excited for him, because I think he’s ready. It [Salisbury] seems like a great school so far.”
