On December 17, Linganore High School (LHS) girls’ varsity basketball team played in the rivalry game against Oakdale High School (OHS) Bears.
Unfortunately, after a hard fought game, the Lancers lost to the Bears by two points, with a final score of 55-53, giving the Bears a 4-0 record and the Lancers a 3-1 record.
Seniors Kayleigh Lake and Taylor Moran, junior Bradyn MacKay, sophomore Sedona Brown and freshman Liana Maxwell were the Linganore starting lineup for the game. Lake started the game off on the right note, winning the tip-off.
During the first quarter, the Lancers held the lead. Brown led the Lancers with eight points, followed by MacKay with five. Maxwell and Lake both scored two points each ending the first quarter with the lead 17-11.
In the second quarter, Oakdale had a better performance, scoring 18 points to Linganore 13, Lancers finished the half with a one point lead over the Bears, 30-29.
Linganore started the third quarter just as aggressive and determined. Both teams were fighting to win this game. Mackay led the quarter for the Lancers with five points, Brown with three and Maxwell with two points. Ending the third quarter, the Bears tied the game 40-40.
Maxwell led the Lancers with an impressive 10 points in the final quarter. Unfortunately, Oakdale scored 15 points to Linganore’s 13 points.
The Bears took the lead in the last quarter, ending the game 55-53. Despite the loss, the Lancers statistics included 29 rebounds, 11 assists, 11 steals, 3 blocks and 79% accuracy from the free throw line.
The Linganore girls’ basketball team plays North Hagerstown High School (NHHS) at Linganore on Friday, January 10, starting at 6 p.m.
