On November 8, Stephen Curry signed his National Letter of Intent to play at Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. The Seton Hall Pirates baseball team is a NCAA Division l college baseball team that competes in the Big East Conference.
Curry has been on Linganore’s varsity baseball team for two years, and he is entering his third season this spring. He is the starting pitcher for The Lancers and also contributes by hitting and playing the infield.
Due to his major contributions and success for Linganore baseball, Curry was awarded Frederick County Public Schools’ (FCPS) first team all-conference and first team all-county last year as a junior.
Linganore baseball had a 7-14 record last season and fell to a talented North Hagerstown in regional semi finals; however, the team is confident this upcoming season will yield much more success.
Curry has played baseball almost his entire life, starting at age 4. Over the last 14 years, he has played for many teams, but he currently plays for Linganore High School and Maryland United.
At the Signing Day ceremony, Linganore baseball coach Bill Long shared his thoughts on Curry as a player.
“I have not met someone as competitive and determined as Stephen Curry is,” Long said.
Playing college baseball had been a goal of Curry’s for as long as he could remember. Curry carried this competitive spirit and determination throughout his recruiting process.
Curry described his recruitment process as, “stressful at first, [because you have to] reach out to coaches and have them come watch you play,” he said. However, as he got to know the coaches and narrowed down schools, “it slowly became less stressful and more exciting.”
Many schools were a part of Curry’s college recruitment process. He was in communication with about 15-20 schools, most of which were Division l, leaving him many options to choose from. It ultimately came down to which school felt the most like home, and that was Seton Hall.
“As soon as I stepped on campus, it felt right,” said Curry. “From the coaches to the environment, I just loved being there.”
Curry’s father, Scott Curry, shared similar sentiments.
“We loved the urban feel there, and it just felt like home every weekend that we spent up there,” said Scott Curry.
At Seton Hall, Curry plans to major in graphic design and advertising. After college, he hopes to work for a sports business in a marketing or advertising role.
“I know all of the hard work and time that Stephen has put into getting to this day,” said Scott Curry. “So, watching his dreams come true is just so rewarding for all of us.”
