On November 8, Linganore Swimmer Jordan Grab signed his National Letter of Intent to continue swimming at Niagara University.
Niagara University is a private Catholic university in Lewiston in Niagara County, New York. Grab was recruited because of his success in the sport.
“I think that I show a lot of potential over a lot of different strokes and events,” Grab said.
Jordan has been swimming for 11 years, starting at age 6. Grab stated that he had never thought that he would be so interested in swimming and that swimming just clicked with him, so he continued to do it.
“I didn’t really think I would be interested [in swimming],” Grab said. “I just kept doing it for so long, it kind of made me the person I am today [with] my work ethic.”
His parents recalled the first time they saw his interest in swimming as a sport.
“One of the very first times was when he was 6 years old; he swam across the pool, and he finished and said, ‘I want to do it again,’” Grab’s father, Dan Grab, said.
Grab stated that he had many amazing friends and coaches who encouraged his swimming journey. Linganore swimming coach Joe Hawkins was one of those supporters.
“I know that Jordan will do great in Niagara,” Hawkins asid. “He has the right mix of talent, dedication and attitude to achieve all that he sets his mind to.”
Once Grab reached a higher level with his swimming, he switched to newer and better clubs. When he realized his potential, he decided to pursue it in college. His parents recognized that swimming would be a big part of Jordan’s life when he began swimming at the club level.
“When he knew that he would be able to hold his own at that level, then we realized it could be something for him,” Grab’s mother, Tania Grab, said.
“I think just his commitment to his teammates … and seeing how he works within a team and how he understands the dynamics of the sport really made us understand that he understands the sport at multiple levels, and understands what it means to [commit to a] D1 sport,” Grab’s father, Dan Grab, said.
Jordan Grab has earned multiple records during his time at Linganore. Of his multiple records, Grab said he is most proud of his 500-yard freestyle record from the 2022-2023 season. He did not expect to do so well at the meet and ended up doing a lot better than he thought he would.
According to Hawkins, “Jordan Grab just may be the greatest male freestyle swimmer that has ever swam for Linganore.” This makes him a great choice for Niagara University.
