On May 10, Linganore senior Mia Yim signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her dance career at the University of Miami.

Yim has always wanted to continue her dance career in college and knew that Miami was the right fit for her.

“I knew that I wanted to keep dancing after high school,” Yim said. “I really liked their academic program as well as their dance team and social scene.”

Yim has been on the Linganore Pom and Dance team for four years and was selected as a captain for the 2023 season.

Coach Richardson raved about Yim’s abilities both on and off the dance floor.

“Mia is an amazing young woman on and off the field,” Richardson said. “Her academics are amazing as well as her dance.

Collegiate dancing has a different recruiting process than other sports. Prospective student athletes tryout for the team, which in Yim’s case, caused her to miss a big event of her senior year.

“I had to go in person … It was a three-day audition process, about 8 hours a day,” Yim said. “I actually missed prom [to audition]; it was the same weekend.”

Mia will study marine biology at Miami, whose coastal locations make it one of the top programs in the country for the subject.

Coach Richardson is excited for Yim’s future at Miami but stated that she will miss Yim dancing with the Lancers.

“She is so amazing, and I am going to truly miss her next year,” Richardson said.
