Weinel portrays high school hero Ferris Bueller in Mr. Linganore 2020
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” -Ferris Bueller
Braden Weinel will be portraying Ferris Bueller for the Mr. Linganore 2020 theme: Men of Vision. He made the choice to portray Bueller because Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of his favorite movies, and Bueller is a character that he can have fun with.
The 1980’s movie features a student who fakes illness to skip school on a most perfect spring day. He wrecks a car, sees a baseball game, and keeps the principal guessing throughout the action. Weinel, however, would most likely never do any of these actions. Weinel is known for being reliable, trustworthy and sincere. Bueller and Weinel, however, both believe in living life to the fullest.
Weinel decided to enter the competition because his brother Nick Weinel was a contestant in 2014. Ever since, Weinel has been to or helped with every Mr. Linganore contest. Since Weinel has seen so many competitions, he thinks that it will give him an advantage.
“I’ve been to a lot of Mr. Linganore competitions, so I know what sells and what the judges do and don’t like,” said Weinel.
Weinel chose Ashley Martin to be his escort and dance partner and Jake Muller to be his manager. Muller will help in the lunchtime competitions by building a gumdrop tower, writing a sweetheart letter, and decorating a cake. The lunchtime competitions will take place on March 4 during each lunch shift. Weinel is hoping to have the upper hand in the sweetheart letter competition because he loves to write. Weinel is president of the NEHS and Editor-in-Chief for Lancer Media.
For his entrance Weinel will enter to “Twist and Shout” with guest appearances by Sloane Peterson, Ed Rooney, and Cameron Frye, Bueller’s counterparts in the movie. He doesn’t want to spoil much about his entrance, but is very excited for everyone to see it.
“His entrance is so good! You don’t want to miss it,” said Muller.
Weinel will be attending Hood College to play soccer and study communications. Weinel has played soccer for 14 years and was the captain in high school.
“Mr. Linganore seems like so much fun and a great way to end my senior year,” said Weinel.
Weinel is also passionate about Young Life. He will be a volunteering to serve at camp for a month this summer. Most seniors know Weinel from his various activities, including starting the Futsal Club last year.
Come support Weinel and the other contestants at Mr. Linganore on March 7 at 7:00 p.m. Buy your ticket from Weinel for $8.00 in advance or $10.00 at the door.
