Rasmussen looks to fly towards victory at Mr. Linganore 2019
Charlie Rasmussen, The SGA Treasurer for the class of 2019, looks to bring home the treasure of being crowned Mr. Linganore this year on March 9. The competition begins at 7:00 p.m. in the school auditorium.
Rasmussen is a three-year golfer and a four-year tennis player. After high school, he will attend Kansas University and major in computer engineering. He decided to go to KU because his father, sister, and brother are all alumni.
During Mr. Linganore, Rasmussen will be trading in his golf club and tennis racket for a pilot’s cap and a jet plane as he portrays Chuck Yeager in this “Night of Firsts” themed competition. Yeager was a United States Air Force flying ace who became the first person ever to break the sound barrier. Rasmussen selected him because his father is in the Air Force and he always saw it interesting as to how someone could be faster than the speed of sound.
Rasmussen chose to perform in Mr. Linganore because he wanted to participate in a great school tradition. He also now has the chance to one-up his older brother, Harry, who competed in 2017.
“Winning would mean a lot, knowing that I beat my brother in something,” said Rasmussen.
He is most excited about the talent portion of the contest but, is ready to embrace every other aspect including the question and answer part, which he is most nervous about. Rasmussen has been rehearsing his talent with Jon Wheat and Alec Deyaert, two senior friends.
Rasmussen’s older brother Harry said, “I think he will do well in the talent portion because he’s with his buddies, and that’s always the best part.”
Leading up to the competition, the contestants compete in three lunchtime competitions on March 6. Being in the Project Lead The Way program, Rasmussen has an upper hand in the gumdrop tower challenge. His manager and escort, Victoria Rausch, will be assisting him in the mini contests: Cake decorating, writing sweetheart letters, and building a gumdrop tower.
Tickets are being sold by each contestant and will also be sold at the door on the night of the competition. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Come out and support Rasmussen as well as the 11 other seniors fighting for the title of Mr. Linganore.
