Class of 2018 Bright Futures: Kelsey Ward comes out of her shell to become a terrapin

Kelsey Ward will be attending the University of Maryland. Going to the school is a family tradition since her mom and her aunt are terrapin graduates.

“Before going to school, I will be going to Peru for the third time on a missions trip. I’ll be going to the jungle and fulfilling service projects through Vacation Bible
School and completing whatever task the village needs us to do,” said Kelsey.

Kelsey plans to major in journalism: broadcast, or website journalism, while minoring in communications. After college, Kelsey would love to work at a big news company and plans to cover the 2028.

Kelsey has written a Best of SNO story, publishing an article about her week-long internship working at Congressman Alcee Hastings’ office: Tunneling under Capitol Hill: My adventure interning for Congressman Hastings.

“Moving forward in life I’m excited to meet new people and gain new experiences. I can’t wait for the next level of journalism simply because I just love it so much. Writing on a college level will be a complete change, since the level of competitiveness is raised,” said Kelsey.

While at Maryland, Kelsey hopes to write for Maryland’s student newspaper, The Diamondback.

“I’d like to thank my parents for helping me reach this far in my life. They’re like my two best friends, and they encouraged me to follow my heart, even when I didn’t know what I wanted to do in college,”

Some of Kelsey’s favorite memories include performing with Pom and Dance, being able to attend the football games, and simply just walking by friends in the hallways every day.

“In the future, I’m excited to meet some big journalists or famous celebrities that I’d get to interview, but maybe my future husband,” said Kelsey.
