Learning and leading in the Addams Family
On April 6th the theater department will be putting on the acclaimed musical, Addams Family. In charge of a cast of 25 actors has been Mrs. Angela Smithhisler, Mr. Damon Norko and student-director Samantha Buntman.
Buntman has been involved in the theater department for three years. This is her first time student directing in any capacity and she says she has learned so much.
“I learned about how to take control and give directions clearly and directly. There were so many aspects of theater I did not know about that I learned about along the way.”
Buntman had a lot of help from Mr. Damon Norko. Norko has been involved in the theater department for six years. This is his third year as the director.
“I had to coordinate all the different departments, make sure deadlines were met and control the budget for the show. Luckily, I had amazing student assistants,” said Norko.
Students applied the skills they learned in theater class to the choreography, acting and set design.
“Smithhisler and I acted as backstops for the cast,” said Norko.“We gave them the opportunity to excel and use their skills.”
The skills the directors used over the course of the show have manifested in a very exciting production.
“The show is very kinesthetic,” said Norko. “ The audience should be excited for all the action. The show is great at keeping everyone’s attention.”
Buntman thinks the dance numbers are the most exciting part of the show.
“The audience should be excited for the dance numbers. I think the show has been put together really well. Everyone worked together really well and the show is really fantastic. I am really proud of the whole production,” she said.
The Addams Family will open on April 6th at 7:00 PM. See the exciting dance numbers and the the rest of the action throughout this fun show. Shows are also on April 7 at 7:00 PM, April 8 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM, and April 9 at 2:00 PM. Tickets can be bought online or at the door.
