With prom less than a month away, students are scrambling to make arrangements regarding everything from apparel to transportation. One of the biggest arrangements on the minds of both girls and boys is who to go with. Some people choose to go with a large group of friends; others don’t mind simply riding solo for the night. But those who choose to go with a date have even more to take into consideration: How will I ask or be asked?

On Wednesday, April 1, Julissa Canas was sitting in Ms. Theresa Wiltrout’s second period AP Biology class when an unexpected visitor came through the door. It was Nathaniel Mejia, carrying flowers and a poster that read,”Julissa, sorry to interrupt… but prom?” And no, it was not an April Fool’s joke.

Mejia didn’t pull off this clever promposal all on his own. “It was brainstorming, just me and my friends texting back and forth,” he said. The sign was courtesy of Maddy Pennington. Mejia also has Ms. Wiltrout to thank for allowing his “interruption.”

“The whole promposal and him asking me took me by surprise,” Julissa said. “I thought it was cute and unexpected.”

Although it was unexpected, Mejia was confident leading up to the event. He said, “I knew she was going to say yes.”
