With prom less than a month away, students are scrambling to make arrangements regarding everything from apparel to transportation. One of the biggest arrangements on the minds of both girls and boys is who to go with. Some people choose to go with a large group of friends, others don’t mind simply riding solo for the night. But those who choose to go with a date have even more to take into consideration: How will I ask or be asked?

“I didn’t know what to say, honestly.” This was the reaction of Kyle Speck, boyfriend of senior Marissa Lee, after receiving a promposal from his girlfriend at Katana, local sushi restaurant.

It was Monday, April 6 when Marissa took Linganore graduate Kyle back to the spot of their first date, and, to Kyle’s surprise, something extra in the sauce. Their waitress brought Kyle a plate of his favorite sushi and the question “Prom?” written in sauce.

“I was extremely nervous and hoping it would work,” Lee said. The plan was nearly spoiled by a slip of words by the waitress, but Lee was able to pull it off. “I got it all sorted out and it worked out perfectly.”

The event must have taken some pressure off of Speck’s shoulders; he was planning on asking Lee to prom himself before she beat him to it. “It was a super cool idea, especially how it was written in sauce,” Speck said.

Lee and Speck are looking forward to spending another prom together. “I’m excited to go to my second prom with my girlfriend and take her out for her senior prom,” Speck said.
