Several members of the Linganore Key Club were awarded for their outstanding efforts this past year at the Capital Region Leadership Convention in Ocean City March 22 to 23.

Club advisor, Mr. Jeremy Brown, received the Capital District Outstanding Faculty Advisor award.

According to Angie Moore, mother of Junior Liz Moore and Kiwanis Representative, Mr. Brown was nominated for doing an outstanding job as Key Club director, being a “fantastic mentor, and pushing the students to do things instead of doing the things for them.”

Freshman Desmond Crooks says, “Mr. Brown is a very helpful guy, and he always knows what to do and how to help you.”

Senior Lauren Regulinski was named the Distinguished Club Vice President for Division 9.

“As a club we worked very hard this year, so to receive the recognition we did on a district level is amazing because our hard work really paid off,” said Regulinski.

Junior Kira Zimmerman was installed as the new Division 7-A Lieutenant Governor.

Zimmerman said that Key Club is all about community service and being active in one’s community. As Division 7-A Lieutenant Governor, Zimmerman has to send monthly division newsletters and hold division meetings.

She says that holding such a position is difficult because it takes a lot of time and commitment. Organizing and prioritizing her time between NJROTC, FFA, 4H, and varsity tennis keeps her very busy.

Members, Matt Blumhardt, Ryan Bonds, Desmond Crooks, Allison deBlois, Elise Duda, Kyle Johnson, Dillon Mitcham, Matt Raabe, Lauren Regulinski, Alex Reinhardt, Kasal Smaha, Andrew Walker, and Kira Zimmerman all attended the convention.

Allison deBlois said, “I had a lot of fun and I made a lot of friendships that will last [at the convention].”

The efforts put forth in submitting money and paperwork earned them the title of a Bronze level national club for UNICEF, and allowed them to attain top designation in both the district and governor’s projects.

They Key Club is sponsored by the Mt. Airy Kiwanis.
