As the holiday season approaches, the Frederick community gathers to celebrate the spirit of togetherness through a unique and heartfelt tradition: the Annual Egg Nog Jog. Officially known as the Quentin Ingram Egg Nog Jog, this annual charity race has become a cherished event that combines festive cheer with a meaningful purpose.
The Egg Nog Jog was established in memory of Quentin Ingram, a beloved Frederick resident who lost his battle with leukemia in 2004. Over the years, the event has grown into a powerful tribute to his legacy, raising funds for the Pediatric Oncology Unit at Johns Hopkins and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The 13th Annual Quentin Ingram Egg Nog Jog took place on Saturday, December 21 at Linganore High School (LHS) in Frederick. The event kicked off at 9 a.m., welcoming runners, walkers and even virtual participants to join in on the fun. The $25 registration fee included a custom race bib and a festive race shirt to commemorate the occasion.
Participants had the option to complete the race in person or tackle a virtual challenge, ensuring that everyone could take part regardless of their location or schedule. This flexibility has broadened the event’s reach, attracting supporters from beyond Frederick who are eager to contribute to the cause.
Every registration fee and additional donations go directly toward supporting life-saving research and treatments for children battling cancer. By taking part, runners helped to provide hope to families navigating the challenges of pediatric oncology.
“What makes the Egg Nog Jog different from other holiday races is its hosted by the school,” says Ryan Phelps, a devoted runner. “Egg Nog stations are placed at many different places on the course every quarter mile.”
Participants and spectators alike are encouraged to embrace the holiday spirit by wearing fun costumes, including Santa hats, reindeer antlers, and holiday-themed running gear. The sight of runners in colorful attire spreading cheer across the course is a highlight of the event. After the race, participants can enjoy warm beverages, light snacks, and the camaraderie of fellow joggers.
Whether you’re an avid runner, a casual walker, or someone looking to make a difference, the Egg Nog Jog offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community while supporting a vital cause.
As the Egg Nog Jog continues to grow each year, it stands as a testament to the power of community and the enduring impact of one individual’s legacy. Together, the people of Frederick and beyond honor Quentin Ingram’s memory while spreading hope and joy to families in need. This December, lace up your running shoes, don your favorite holiday outfit, and join the Egg Nog Jog to make a difference that truly matters.
