TV Girl is a band with over 23 million monthly streams on Spotify known for their appealing indie pop music.
On December 2, the band released a new album titled “Fauxllennium.” A bit different from their past popular albums, it gives more of an electronica vibe than their traditional indie-pop. They achieved this through a collaboration with George Clanton, an electronica-alternative music artist with a smaller listening audience than TV Girl.
“Fauxllennium” consists of seven songs each with an overall nostalgic, upbeat and calming feeling.
“Summer 2000 Baby”
Their first song in the album, “Summer 2000 Baby,” has the most summer vibe out of all the other songs, hence the name. It is upbeat and perfect to dance to, telling you to party and have fun during the summer. This song kicks off the album perfectly.
“Everything Blue”
The second song is much different from their fun and playful “Summer 2000 Baby.” In “Everything Blue,” Clanton reminisces about his past and how different life has become. The song captures the feeling of not belonging in this life anymore, accompanied by the lively beat heard throughout the album. It manages to depict these strong feelings while maintaining an upbeat vibe.
“Fauxllennium”
Their title song, “Fauxllennium” is playful and cheery with a “Na-, na-na-na-na,na, na” chorus that present a groovy feeling. It is upbeat and features multiple samples of movie dialogue, making it fun to listen to. It also shows off TV Girl’s uniqueness. It definitely lives up to the expectations of being the title song of the album.
“Butterflies (feat. Jordana)”
The fourth song is overall the best song on the album. It features Jordana, a singer who was a part of TV Girl’s past album, “Summer’s Over” from 2021. In “Butterflies,” Jordana sings about how love can’t always last forever. She delivers the memorable line: “You said it wouldn’t hurt you if I left without a warning.” She shares that “only butterflies are free” from the pain of feeling like you are in a cage, hence the name of the song. It has a funky and groovy vibe with playful vocals and is overall an amazing song to listen to.
“Take a Trip”
“Take a Trip” tells listeners to “take a trip back down memory lane.” Clanton talks about someone changing so much they become unrecognizable to their past self. Clanton’s vocals are very soothing and present the emotions of the song well. It is a chill song that is perfect for a focused studying session.
“The Sweet Life”
Unfortunately, the sixth song on the album has a very repetitive sound, which makes it plain and boring to listen to. In some moments of the song, background music overpowers Clanton’s voice and is not as enticing as it could be if his voice and lyrics were clearly heard. Overall, “The Sweet Life” is less interesting than the other songs on the album and not as enjoyable.
“Yesterdays World”
The last song once again represents the ongoing theme of nostalgia with the line, “Can we go back in time?” The finale song “Yesterday’s World” wraps up the album perfectly with lyrics that share the experience of feeling one’s past is so far away but wanting to go back to it. In my opinion, it is one of the best songs from the album and successfully represents the album as a whole.
