On February 7, Linganore senior Alexis Hardy signed her National Letter of Intent to play Division III softball at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Hardy has played for the Linganore girls’ varsity softball team since her sophomore year when she helped the team win the 2022 Maryland State Softball Championship. She has proved to be an extremely valuable asset to her teammates both on and off the field.
“She’s an individual that motivates the players around her with her strong work ethic,” said girls softball coach Andrea Poffinberger.
Poffinberger explained that Hardy’s greatest strengths in the game was her versatility, being able to seamlessly switch between different fielding positions or stepping into the batting lineup to fill whatever role her team needed.
Following a teammate’s season ending injury in the spring 2023 season, Hardy was able to switch from an infield position to outfield position, which helped propel the team to a strong run all the way to the state quarterfinals.
Hardy was described as a meticulous and detailed-oriented player who strives to perfect every aspect of her play.
“It is not unusual to see her run through parts of her swing at practice or even during a game if she feels like she’s struggling with one or more components,” said Poffinberger. “She clearly strives for perfection with every single repetition, but she’s also pleased with the progress and growth that she’s able to make over a season.”
Hardy’s mother, Noelle Hardy, echoed similar sentiments to Poffinberger, adding that she was very proud of how hard Alexis works.
Hardy is excited to attend Muhlenberg due to the school’s strengths in both academics and athletics.
“I’m just looking forward to continuing competing and playing a sport that I love, while getting a good education,” Hardy said. “They have a really good business and economics program, which I’m majoring in, and they have a very competitive softball team, which I really liked.”
Poffenberger thinks it is clear that Muhlenberg is getting a fantastic competitor both on and off the field.
“Muhlenberg is very lucky to have you not only on the softball field, but academically. I know in both locations you will strive,” Poffenberger said.
