On November 8, Senior Leah Doy signed her National Letter of Intent to join Salisbury University’s lacrosse team.
Doy expressed great interest in continuing her lifelong journey of playing lacrosse at the collegiate level.
“I think my love for the sport started in second grade,” Doy said. “So, I definitely couldn’t let that go. I just wanted to continue.”
Doy has been on the Linganore lacrosse team her entire high school career, similar to the route taken by her sister.
Their father, David Doy, has supported both of his daughters’ routes to Salisbury. It is a college close to the family’s heart. As David Doy explained, it is where he played football and met the girls’ mother.
“Having one daughter already at Salisbury and another daughter going there, “I can’t wait,” said Doy. “Their coaching staff does a great job, giving them a chance every year at the national championship.”
Leah Doy is looking forward to playing lacrosse at the collegiate level and pursuing a career in teaching.
“I plan on majoring in early child development education, so I’m excited for that,” Doy said. “I have been looking into a teaching career like a second grade teacher or something.”
Linganore varsity lacrosse coach, Dean Coccia, sees a lot of potential in Doy’s play style. He believes her aggression on the field has been a valuable asset to the team.
“Leah is extremely competitive and will fight to win every ground ball,” said Coccia. “It [her play style] really is a game changer for us on the field.”
Coccia explained that Doy’s contributions to the team changed the course of the whole season, creating a strong offense for the team. The coach went on to describe Doy as determined, gritty and persistent, and all of these qualities will aid her in her future athletic career at Salisbury University.
