The Linganore High School Homecoming game on September 13 was an explosion of joy, unity and literal fireworks among the Linganore Lancer community, marking the team’s 4th sweep.
The Lancers will proceed to the state playoffs in the postseason thanks to their 6-1 winning streak.
A stronger focus on defense this year seems to have aided the Lancers in scoring a jaw dropping 28-0 win against a pretty solid team such as the Middletown Knights.
One of the varsity football players, junior MJ Rawlett, scored the longest pick 6 in Linganore history during the game.
“It’s a cool accomplishment you know,” Rawlett said. “We worked hard and it paid off so, I’m happy!”
Teamwork has been a key motivator in school spirit, and the team’s victory served as a brilliant kickoff to the Homecoming dance. Not only was it an amazing accomplishment for the players, but a great boost for Lancer pride. Students believe now is a great time to be part of the tribe. Senior Lizzy Miller saw the entire game in action and reported she is proud to be a Lancer.
“You’re in a class, kind of rooting for each other to win,” said Miller. “So, that [the game] was pretty good at bringing us together, and it just creates another fun thing you can do,”
Perhaps the proudest Lancers of them all have to be the coaches. Varsity football coach Jordan Dixon believes the win was a morale booster for the Linanore community.
“The game kind of had a college vibe to it,” said Dixon. “So, it was great for our kids to experience our community and Linganore overall; it was good for them,”
The win was celebrated with an immaculate 15 minute firework display that peaked the excitement of the tribe.
For years, football has been one of the biggest unifiers for Linganore culture within the many demographics of students. This Homecoming game further solidified the sense of community amongst the Tribe.
