On August 30, Linganore held its annual Club Fair. Students had the opportunity to explore various clubs, both for academics and extra-curricular activities.
Clubs set up tables where they could advertise their group to other students. The fair was held outside on the cafeteria patio during all lunch shifts.
“The club fair allows students to kind of get out and see all the extra things that they’re able to do here at Linganore and extra ways they’re able to connect with their peers and staff members,” said school counselor Jessica Quinn.
Some students say the 49 clubs offered are a great way to spark community building. As a tip to incoming freshman, senior Siena Phaup believes that joining clubs is a quintessential part of the high school experience.
“It’s very important for them to join clubs to get involved in the school and experience everything we have to offer,” said Phaup.
Many clubs are student-led and run by students with the help of teacher or staff supervision.
Linganore has four principles represented by A’s: Academics, Accountability, Attitude and Acceptance. In the 2022-23 school year, principal Dr. Michael Dillman added the fourth A to the existing three, and the current school year has seen a focus on acceptance to promote community.
A few students think clubs like Black Student Union (BSU) is one way to uphold this principle. Senior Cassandra Nti serves as the president to the club and thinks the formation of the BSU is a step in the right direction.
“It brings culture and provides a safe space for all minorities and everybody who just feels discriminated against to go and have people like them,” said Nti.
The club sign up form closes Friday, September 1 at 2:30 p.m. The form can be found at linganoresga.com.
