The Linganore boys’ track team finished in 6th place out of 12 teams at the Frederick County Championship. The meet took place at Governor Thomas Johnson High School on May 12.

Although the team was hoping for better placement, there were some good individual performances by the team.

Senior distance runner Kyle Walker had an excellent performance, finishing 2nd in the 800m and 1600m dash and placing 4th in the 4×400 meter relay.

Walker shared that the championship meet would help prepare him for future competitions.

“That was a good build up meet towards getting myself ready for regionals and states,” Walker said.

Senior jumper Kelsey Bannon also had a good performance. Kelsey finished 4th in the high jump, with a height of 6 feet, while long jumping 6.15 meters.

Bannon felt positive about his overall performance.

“Considering I haven’t been in the best condition this season, I would say my performance was a success,” Bannon said.

Senior thrower Logan Rich also had a great performance. Logan finished 1st in the discuss and 6th in the shot put.

“My goal at this meet was to close the gap between me throwing the discus and me throwing the shot,” Rich said. “I didn’t close the gap as much as I would like, but overall, it was a good performance.”

Fans can catch the boys’ track team competing at the 3A West Region Championships on May 17 and May 20 at Oakdale High School.
