#Mr.Linganore2022: Captain America saves the day, Jack Sears performs a Big Time Rush solo for the crown
March 4, 2022
On March 5, Jack Sears will be competing for the Mr. Linganore crown alongside five other contestants. Sears will be portraying Captain America as his “Man Behind the Mask” character, Marvel Universe experimental “super-soldier” in World War II.
“I chose to be Captain America because he has always been my favorite character, and I love the values he represents,” said Sears.
Sears is also a fan of the 2010’s boy band/TV show Big Time Rush which is what his talent is based on. He chose to do a Big Time Rush song to wow the audience and really charm them with his unique spin on the song that so many teens know.
“For my talent I will be changing the words to the song “Big Time Rush” by Big Time Rush, and singing and dancing. I chose to have more Linganore specific words in there to make it more fun and memorable to people. . . I am probably most excited for my talent, but the dances are a close second, ” said Sears.
Each contestant is also required to have a sponsor for their part in the show. Sears is sponsored by Chiropractic First, run by Doctors Andrea and Andrew Williamson.
Sears is part of the Varsity Cross Country and Track and Field teams. He is in Mu Alpha Theta, National English Honor Society, and National Honor Society. Sears also recently became an Eagle Scout. He supervised a project that planted 12 trees along a section of the Appalachian Trail in Washington Monument State Park.
Sears will be escorted by classmate and friend senior Ashley Alt.
“My escort is my good friend, Ashley Alt. I chose Ashley because we both thought it would be a lot of fun to do and she has been one of my best friend,” said Sears.
Sears really knew he wanted to participate in Mr. Linganore after seeing past competitions and watching his cousin, Thomas Lang, participate in Mr. Linganore just a few years ago.
“After seeing some of the previous Mr. Linganore contests, I’ve just kind of realized that it seems really laid back, fun, and a chance to just share a really great experience with my friends and classmates,” said Sears.
After high school, Sears plans to major in either computer science or computer engineering. He also plans to participate in Track and Field wherever he goes.
A few of my friends are helping me with my talent, entrance and escort, especially my manager Zack McCaa. Also, my mom helped me a lot with learning about baking and cake decorating for the lunch competition,” said Sears.
The cake Sears decorated had intricate fondant strips to represent the American theme.
His strong suit was the gumdrop tower along with his creativity in the finger painting challenge and sweetheart letter. He wrote to his “love” Peggy. . . all the way from Germany (as Captain America of course), and finger painted a very accurate cover of The Very Hungry Caterpillar (one of his childhood favorites)!
“I loved helping Jack with the finger painting, while it was messy it was super fun. I really liked that he chose Hungry Caterpillar as his book because it was really colorful and eye-catching to everyone around us,” said senior Lindsay Toothaker, who is also part of Jack’s superhero team.
Come see Captain America take down the competition March 5 at 7 pm, doors open at 6:30, and tickets are $10.
