Over the course of 2021, several strange occurrences have taken place. With two variants of Covid-19 and the world still upside down, this year has been unlike any other, with celebrities and social media stars being a critical part of our daily entertainment and speculation.

Billie Eilish’s hair transformation

After years of her infamous green and black hairstyle, Eilish shocked the world with her now shorter blonde hair and bangs. She has had her neon green roots and black hair since 2019. Before her announcement of her upcoming album, Happier than Ever, she posted a picture of her new style which received over 1 million likes in 6 minutes, breaking the world record.

Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather’s boxing match

Controversial YouTuber Logan Paul and professional boxer Floyd Mayweather boxed each other on June 6 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida. The results ended in a tie, but many say that Mayweather was the clear winner. This was not the first time Paul had boxed. Paul boxed YouTuber KSI in November of 2019 which also resulted in a tie. Again, many say that KSI was the clear winner. 

Elon Musk and Grimes divorce

After three years together and one year after the birth of their child, X Æ A-Xii, Grimes and Musk divorced. Musk has confirmed that the couple are separated but are still on good terms and will co-parent. According to the couple, the distance between their primary work places combined with frequent business travel caused the majority of difficulties in their relationship. The couple agrees that their baby and relationship will still remain intact, describing their divorce as “semi-separated” because the two live together and still take care of their child together.

Scooter Braun and Taylor Swift’s feud

From the start of her career, Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun have never liked each other. Before the major conflict with Braun, Swift experienced multiple constrictions and incidents in which she was silenced or mistreated by her label. The whole situation escalated when Swift decided to leave Big Machine Records and Scott Borcheta, the one to first sign Swift, sold the rights to all of her music to Braun without consulting her. When Swift asked to buy the rights to her music back, they refused to speak to her about it unless she agreed to sign an NDA first. This NDA stated that Swift could never speak about Braun unless it was positive. She refused as she did not want to be silenced. She then was not given the opportunity to buy her masters back. As a result, Swift has chosen to re-record all six of her albums, leading to the creation of “Taylor’s Version.” Though the feud has been long-going, Swift released two re-recordings of her albums this year, Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version).

Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson’s song

Wrestler, actor and… musician? The Rock recently collaborated on a rap song called “Face Off’ with Tech N9ne. Despite his contributions to the Moana soundtrack as Johnson played beloved character Maui, fans were still surprised about him venturing into making his own music. His verse in the song reads, “It’s about drive, it’s about power, we stay hungry, we devour. We put in the work, we put in the hours and take what’s ours.” Johnson’s verse continues on for 13 more lines before the song ends. 

Jojo Siwa dancing with a woman on Dancing with the Stars

Jojo Siwa and Jenna Johnson were the first same-sex couple to dance together on Dancing With the Stars. Jojo Siwa has been in the spotlight since age 9 when she competed on Dance Moms. Since then, her career has blossomed and she has become one of the fundamental role models for young girls today. In January 2021, Jojo Siwa came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Premiering on September 20, Siwa and Johnson appeared on Dancing With the Stars together, earning the highest score of the night. Though they got far into the competition, they did not win.

Harry Styles in Eternals

Despite being known for his music, that does not stop Styles from branching out and trying new occupations. Styles was featured in the end credit scene of Eternals. This is not Styles’ first acting role though as he played a side character in the 2017 movie Dunkirk. Now a part of the beloved Marvel Universe, he will continue to play his character Eros (brother to Thanos) in future movies in phase two of the Marvel movies. Though not confirmed it is said that Styles has signed on to a contract for 5 movies.  

Britney Spear’s Conservatorship

Since 2008, Britney Spears has had almost no control over her life. Due to her declining mental health, her father, James Spears, forced her into a conservatorship. James Spears controlled almost every aspect of his daughter’s life from her financial decisions to her well-being. 

Eventually, Britney Spears was able to break free from the conservatorship when her father was in the hospital and the singer herself admitted herself into a mental hospital due to the stress of her father’s health conditions. Information from the conservatorship was leaked which started the #FreeBritney movement.

The #FreeBritney movement eventually led to a series of court cases where Spears was finally given back the freedom she rightfully deserves.

Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson dating

After the recent divorce of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, no one expected 28 year old comedian, Pete Davidson to date famous socialite, Kim Kardashian, 41. Though neither has come forward and said they are dating, several paparazzi pictures prove otherwise. Pictures of them holding hands and hugging have surfaced the internet.  Sources close to the couple also confirm their relationship. 

Despite this, it is said Kardashian is taking things slow, especially because of her recent divorce and the distance between the two as Kardashian lives in Los Angeles but Davidson lives in New York.

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelley’s interview

Famous actress and singer, Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly recently started dating. With their relationship being new, they gained press coverage when they decided to do an interview with British GQ. They gave some very odd answers. When asked what their first time meeting was, they recalled neither of them even remembered seeing each other’s face. 

Fox said, “I don’t remember [MGK’s] fcae… And I definitely would have remembered his face. I just remember a tall, blond, ghostly creature.” She continued, saying, “I think we weren’t allowed to see each other yet. We weren’t allowed to see each other yet. We weren’t supposed to run into each other that night, so our souls, our spirit guides, were luring us away from each other because you literally had no face.”
