**Attention Lancers: Interested in joining the Social Studies Honors’  Society? If you are in, or have had, at least four social studies classes  (with two of those being AP social studies classes) and if your G.P.A.  in those classes and overall meet the minimum requirement, please  consider joining! Details to follow in the Lancer Lines. See Mrs.  Richardson or Mr. Burch for details. 

**Attention all students! Our new tutoring center, The Lancer Lair, is  hosting a Logo Design Contest. Interested students should design a  logo for the tutoring enter and submit the image using the QR code on  the flyers posted around the school. Designs are due by September  20th. The winner will receive a cash prize and the logo will be used to  represent our tutoring center. The contest is open to all students.  See Mrs. Ecalono or Mrs. Weiss with any questions! 

**Interested in getting first-hand knowledge of the ins and outs of  national security? Interested in seeing how diplomacy, intelligence  gathering and defense are handled? Want to participate in a real world national security simulation that is part of a four day leadership  forum? If so, then contact Mr. Burch to find out more information how  you can participate in the 2022 National Youth Leadership Forum in  Washington DC!! 

**The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is pleased to  announce an opportunity for two Maryland students to participate in  the 2022 United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). The one-week  program provides an opportunity for students to meet with legislative,  executive, and judicial leaders to discuss political issues that affect  our nation. The 2022 USSYP program will be held in-person or virtually  from March 5 – 12, 2022. This program, now in its 60th year, is fully  funded by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The USSYP has an  excellent reputation for providing outstanding student leaders a  unique experience in understanding our nation’s political process.  Each participant also receives a one-time $10,000 undergraduate  college scholarship and is encouraged to pursue coursework in history  and political science. Please see Mrs. Hendi or Mr. Burch if interested.  

**Application to the National English Honor Society is now open!  Interested juniors and seniors can join the Schoology NEHS  Application group with the code 9NCD-F2G8-RNC9V. The application  is available at the Schoology site, and joining the application group  will give Mrs. R. an ability to communicate with interested students,  post opportunities for language arts activities and post messages. The requirements for application are a 3.0 overall unweighted GPA, all  “A” and “B” final course grades in English, and a demonstrated  enthusiasm for language arts. Students who are accepted will have an  annual participation requirement of 6 hours, including tutoring and  submitting to a writing contest. The deadline for application is  September 15.
