**The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is pleased to announce an  opportunity for two Maryland students to participate in the 2022 United States  Senate Youth Program. The one-week program provides an opportunity for  students to meet with legislative, executive, & judicial leaders to discuss  political issues that affect our nation. The 2022 USSYP program will be held in person or virtually from March 5 – 12, 2022. This program, now in its 60th year, is  fully funded by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The USSYP has an  excellent reputation for providing outstanding student leaders a unique  experience in understanding our nation’s political process. Each participant also  receives a one-time $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship & is encouraged  to pursue coursework in history and political science. Please see Mrs. Hendi or  Mr. Burch if interested.

**Application to the National English Honor Society is now open! Interested  juniors & seniors can join the Schoology NEHS Application group with the  code 9NCD-F2G8-RNC9V. The application is available at the Schoology site, & joining the application group will give Mrs. R. an ability to communicate with  interested students, post opportunities for language arts activities, & post  messages.

The requirements for application are a 3.0 overall unweighted GPA, all “A” and  “B” final course grades in English, & a demonstrated enthusiasm for language  arts. Students who are accepted will have an annual participation requirement of  6 hours, including tutoring and submitting to a writing contest. The deadline for  application is September 15. Please contact Mrs. Rebetsky at  [email protected] if you have any questions.

**Have you taken Spanish 4 or AP Spanish and received a 3.0 GPA or higher in  those courses? Are you interested in learning more about Latin American culture,  language, and tradition?
