Top 10 Rap/Hip-Hop songs of 2021

Top 10 Rap/Hip-Hop songs of 2021

by Eric Simonson, Reporter

This year, many great artists flew into our playlists.  I have created a list of my top 10 favorite songs of 2021. This diverse lineup includes songs from various Hip-Hop and Rap genres. Including artist such as Polo G, Doja Cat, Kanye West, and more.

“Get Into It (Yuh) by Doja Cat

Peaking at number 41 on the Billboard hot 100, this song is off of the Planet Girl album. “Get into It (Yuh)” has a hook that grabs your attention with lines such as””. Doja Cat also delivers solid verses to compliment the hook. The song was released on June 25. When ever this song is on, my mood always gets better. I can listen to this song all the way through and sing the hook every time.

“Rapstar” by Polo G

Released on April 9 off of Polo G’s album Hall of Fame, the verses on this song are by far the best part of the song. The deep and meaningful lyrics included is the biggest reason why this song is on this list. The hook is solid and catchy, but whenever this song is on it’s difficult to turn it off. “Rapstar” is a great song to put on in the car with some friends.

“Amari” by J.Cole

Coming off of J.Cole’s album The off-season, “Amari” has good flow during the beginning, but the best part of the song is the middle and towards the end. During the middle and end, the energy of the middle is the perfect blend of hype and lyrics. The energy that J.Cole brings always gets me hyped up before a soccer game or working out.

“Motley Crew” by Post Malone

“Motley Crew” is another classic from Post Malone, debuting its YouTube music video on Lyrical Lemonade, the song exploded. Post Malone delivered his standard singing/melodic flow which worked perfect over the beat. My favorite part of the song near the middle wear the beat cuts out and Post continues singing. The song goes from a melodic song to almost a hype song when the beat re-enters. It’s always a great time when this song is on in the car or by yourself.

“Off The Grid” by Kanye West

Coming off of Kanye West’s 2021 project Donda, “Off the Grid” is one of the best songs off the album. Features from Fivio Foreign and Playboi Carti gave life to the song. Kanye West and Fivio Foreign both gave incredible verses over the energetic fast-paced beat. The only reason why this song is not higher on the list is because the opening verse of the song is Playboi Carti, his verse is extremely mediocre and brings the song down just a little.

“My Life” by J.Cole

“My Life” by J.Cole was released on May 14. This song was released off of J.Cole’s album The Off-Season, and in my opinion is the best song off the album. The lyrics and flow of the first verse from J.Cole is fantastic. The melodic/singing style of hook from one of the features Morray is catchy and beautiful to listen to. Also the closing verse from 21 savage and the final hook round off the song incredibly.

“Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X

“Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X was released on August 7 from his 2021 project Montero. The energy of this song is on another level. It always hypes me up when I listen to it. The feature on the song was Jack Harlow, Harlow compliments Lil Nas X’s flow and style with a lyrical and memorable verse. “Industry Baby” went number 1 on the billboard hot 100.

“Calling my Phone” by Lil Tjay

Being released on February 12 off of Lil Tjay’s album Destined 2 Win. “Calling my phone” is one of my favorite albums this year. This song is great to listen by yourself at night or when you need a chill song. The Combination of Tjay and feature 6Lack created a melodic chill masterpiece. This is my favorite song to put on at night and chill.

“Family Ties” by Baby Keem

Coming off of The Melodic Blue album, “Family Ties” is by far the best song on the album. When I first heard this song I thought it was good but over time it grow on me. The energy that this song brings is on another level. The open verse from Baby Keem brings so much energy and is perfect to lead into the next verse from Kendrick Lamar. Lamar’s verse also brings tons of energy and the connection between Keem and Lamar is unreal. Even though this song is nearly four and a half minutes I can sit through it and enjoy it every time.

“Pure Souls” by Kanye West

“Pure Souls” is a masterpiece created by Kanye West, Roddy Rich, and Sheneea. Coming off of Donda by Kanye West, “Pure Souls” is the best song off of the album. With Roddy Rich’s Melodic Cadence and singable lyrics. I can sing every word from both Roddy Rich and Kanye West. Along with majestically singing from Sheneea towards the end off the song, this song has everything. The beat goes perfectly with the singing style. I can enjoy this song every time I hear it.

There were tons of great songs this year, looking forward to hear songs in 2022.
