On February 18, the Girls varsity basketball game ended in a close loss to Saint James after a hard fought battle. The girls fell short with a final score of 55-49.

As the game started, there was a clear height advantage on the Saint James side with a number of players surpassing six feet. The Saints started with an early lead, ending the first quarter ahead with a score of 13-20.

Linganore scored several three point` shots from Hannah Ratchford and Gabby Kystofiak, but the Lancers struggled to pass the ball down the court with Saint James players` height advantage blocking the passes.

Approaching the end of the second quarter, the Lancers changed their demeanor and offensive drive. They communicated better on plays and did better passing the ball. Just before half time the Lancers tied the score to 22-22.

There was an injury to one of the Saint James starting players which was able to give the Lancers an advantage as they pulled ahead to 29-27; but soon lost the lead and ended the second quarter with a score of 29-29.

In the third and fourth quarters the Lancers began to loose their ground falling behind again.

Gabby Krystofiak had a game high of 24 points with eight rebounds and three steals. Hannah Ratchford had six rebounds and four assists for the Lancers.

Although the varsity team fought hard against the Saints, they fell short. ¨It was a tough game. Saint James had very strong players but we pushed hard and did the best we could¨ said junior Linzee Morris.

The Lancer`s have playoffs starting week of  February 25th. Make sure to follow @LancersBoosters and @LHSJournalsm to receive more updates on girls basketball.
