On February 6, 11 student athletes signed their national letters of intent to play college sports. Jon Wheat signed to play D1 lacrosse for Fairfield University in Connecticut. Wheat chose Fairfield because he loves the campus, the players, and their upgraded facilities.

He received offers from Towson University, Drexel University, Highpoint University, University of Maryland Baltimore County and many others but fell in love with Fairfield’s campus after an unofficial visit following a training camp.

Wheat’s parents, Jennifer and Michael have been his biggest supporters throughout his lacrosse career. “We are very excited for Jon, but we are sad to see him go. We know he has a bright future at Fairfield,¨- Said Jennifer Wheat.

“I am slightly worried about playing in college, but I’ll be fine. I’ve been playing for years,” said Wheat.

Wheat is considering majoring in business, but he hasn’t decided.

Coach Rich Thompson said, “Jon is incredibly dedicated and has an unbelievable work ethic. He is a strong leader with amazing skills in his craft. Jon is always so smiley, and he has a great sense of humor, but when he steps into those lines, no one wants to mess with him.”

Under the coaching of Andy Copelan, the men’s lacrosse team is ranked sixth in the Colonial Athletic Association.
