Mong-Kerwin hat trick leads the charge against North Hagerstown
October 8, 2019
On October 7, the girls varsity soccer team beat down the North Hagerstown Hubs with a score of 3-0 at North Hagerstown High School.
Throughout the game, the Lancers dominated possession of the ball and kept North Hagerstown away from their net through smart and safe passes. Due to the rain hampering the conditions of the match, the ball was slippery, and players had to be careful with their passes and shots.
The Lancers were prepared for these poor conditions and built the foundation of their offense off of high midfield pressure to keep the ball in their possession. This strategy proved successful, as the Lancers built up a solid 1-0 lead at halftime from senior Meghan Mong-Kerwin’s goal.
Mong-Kerwin wasted no time in the second half, picking up where she left off with two additional goals before the game’s end. Two of her goals were regular offensive shots, and one was earned from a penalty kick. The Hubs could not keep up with Mong-Kerwin’s hot boot as she led the Lancers to a promising 3-0 victory.
Senior Juliana Zeller was more than satisfied with the team’s play. “Despite the weather, we were able to feed our strikers well and had more offensive opportunities than in the past. Our strikers worked very hard to capitalize on their chances and played with excellent intensity the entire game, ultimately helping us win.”
With a win against North Hagerstown, the Lancers improve to an overall record of 6-3 on the season. The dominant win also extends the Lancers latest winning streak to four games.
